Xcel Competitive Team & Developmental Program Competitive Team

We offer two different types of competitive gymnastics teams.  Gymnasts must be tested by the Glastonbury Gymnastics Director in order to be placed on our Xcel or Developmental Program competitive team. Our competitive team gymnasts work out between 4.5 to 10 hours per week, allowing them flexibility to participate in multiple activities.

The Glastonbury Gymnastics Club offers gymnasts the opportunity to compete at both USA Gymnastics sanctioned events as well as at YMCA Gymnastics events. We are very proud to say that we have trained local, state, regional and national champions! All team gymnasts must possess a current athlete membership to USA Gymnastics as well as pay an annual gymnastics fee to the Glastonbury Family YMCA.

If you are interested in learning more about our gymnastics team, please call or email the gymnastics facility. Scroll down for our Team Practice Schedule.

Xcel Competitive Team

The Xcel Competitive Team is designed to allow a broader variety of gymnasts a competitive gymnastics experience.  To be eligible to compete Xcel Bronze, our introductory competitive level, gymnasts must be 6 years old and be able to do a backward roll, cartwheel, round-off, and vertical handstand.  After completing Xcel Bronze, gymnasts advance to Level 2.  At our gymnastics club, gymnasts must be age 13 or older to be able to participate in Xcel Silver.  We believe the Developmental Program provides a better foundation for younger gymnasts to successfully progress between levels.  However, the Xcel Program is fantastic for gymnasts who may have begun gymnastics at a later age but aspire to compete on the High School Gymnastics team.  The Xcel Program is divided into 5 levels as listed below:

  • Bronze

  • Silver

  • Gold

  • Platinum

  • Diamond

Developmental Program Competitive Team

The Developmental Team program is more competitive and is designed with long term progressive goals.  The progression requirements from one level to the next are more stringent than the Xcel Program.  There are ten levels to the Developmental Program (Levels 1-10).
